Writing on the Wall: A History of Graffiti

02/28/2018 05:00 PM - 06:30 PM CST

Waldmann Brewery & Wurstery
445 Smith Ave N
Saint Paul, MN 55102

We’ve all seen spray paint graffiti on train cars and under bridges.  But did you know the act of graffiti has been present for thousands of years, in the form of carving and writing on surfaces? Often, one even finds writing on the walls in their own homes and structures - in a basement, on the side of a barn, or behind plaster walls. At this talk, you'll learn about the psychology of graffiti, the vast history of graffiti, why we should study graffiti, and how to preserve important graffiti in your own spaces.

We will gather at Waldmann Brewery & Wurstery, the oldest commercial building in St. Paul. Registration includes a beer or soda ticket! Please note, Sustaining Donors do not receive free admission to this event.

Ticket transfer policy: If you are unable to attend a class but would like to transfer your registration, just email nheneghan@mnpreservation.org, with your name and contact info (email address and phone number), as well as the contact info of the person that will be taking your spot in class. We’ll update our attendance list accordingly.

Refund policy: Please email nheneghan@mnpreservation.org if you would like a refund on your purchased ticket. Preservation Alliance of Minnesota will arrange to refund the cost of the class. Refunds are provided up to seven days prior to the class.

This project has been financed in part with funds provided by the State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society.
